Waterjet cutting a chair from a sound

A chair as sound. Sound as a chair.

The Sound Chair by Matthew Plummer-Fernandez is a sound turned into a physical form using waterjet cut polyethylene foam. He tested 719 different sounds before finding just the right one that would create this shape when plotted on a volume, frequency, and time graph. In a sense, the sound is a chair. Plummer-Fernandez has only made it physical. Listen to what a chair sounds like.

Take a look at more images after the jump, including the sound graph.
